T Cells Targeting Misformed Proteins to Treat Neurodegenerative and Muscular Diseases

Ning Jenny Jiang, PhD, the J. Peter and Geri Skirkanich Associate Professor of Innovation at Penn Engineering, and Shahab Chizari, PhD, former PhD researcher in the Jiang Lab, have engineered T cells with the potential to treat neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Alzheimer’s disease.

By targeting disease-specific proteins, this antigen-specific immunotherapy aims to selectively eliminate damaged cells, potentially offering a more precise and effective treatment approach.
