The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia Recognizes the Philadelphia Region as Leader in Cell and Gene Therapy

A report produced by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, “Leading the Way: Cell and Gene Therapy in Greater Philadelphia, Sector Snapshot 2024” describes the remarkable growth trajectory of the Greater Philadelphia region in the cell and gene therapy (CGT) sector over the past decade to emerge as a widely recognized global leader in this field.

The report highlights Penn’s significant contributions to the growth of the CGT sector in Greater Philadelphia, including spinning out over 40 CGT companies since 2018. Penn Medicine is credited as a key factor in Philadelphia being ranked as a top 4 location for Phase I and II trials for novel cell and gene therapies and the recent launch of the Penn mRNA Institute was also highlighted. 

All of this has helped to further grow the expanding CGT space in Philadelphia, which has received over $8 billion in private capital invested since 2018 and generated 7,000+ jobs. Read more here:
