Study highlights growth and impact of Greater Philadelphia’s Booming Cell and Gene Therapy Industry

The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce published a comprehensive snapshot of the region’s cell and gene therapy sector entitled, “Leading the Way: Cell and Gene Therapy in Greater Philadelphia.” The study found that the Philadelphia region is now home to more than 10% of the world’s cell and gene therapy companies. Collectively, those 60 companies employ more than 7,000 people and have reeled in more than $7 billion in private investment capital over the past five years. As a result, the industry sector has become one of the most important economic drivers in the region over the past decade.  Penn’s research and commercialization activities are highlighted throughout the report as important contributing factors for the sector’s success.
