Penn Medicine’s Kiran Musunuru Featured in The New York Times for Gene Therapy Breakthrough

Kiran Musunuru, MD, PhD, MPH, ML, MRA, Professor of Medicine, in Penn Medicine and co-founder of gene therapy company Verve Therapeutics, was featured in The New York Times for sharing his expert opinion on new gene therapy research where  a disease-causing gene mutation was corrected in patients with a single infusion carrying a treatment that precisely targeted an errant gene. Musunuru explained that this method offers the hope of treating other genetic diseases by fixing mutations and may present an alternative to current gene therapies, which either add new genes to compensate for mutated ones, or slice DNA to silence genes.
