PCI Year in Review FY2025

Accomplishments and Highlights from July 2024 – June 2025

A Message from the Managing Director

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the FY25 Year in Review for the Penn Center for Innovation, celebrating another year of remarkable achievement driven by our faculty, researchers, and dedicated staff.  This annual report showcases PCI’s accomplishments as a commercialization engine and a trusted partner for faculty and researchers across the University of Pennsylvania, benefiting not only our academic community but also society at large.

PCI’s achievements over the past year include:

  • Ranking 1st nationally in licensing income for the fifth consecutive year.
  • Executing 650 commercialization agreements, reflecting the breadth of relationships we are supporting between Penn’s innovators and industry partners.
  • Receiving almost 400 new inventions, an indicator that Penn faculty and researchers continue to vigorously innovate and pursue research ideas that push boundaries and address global challenges.
  • PCI spinouts raised over $591M in funding, despite a challenging funding environment.

Each of these accomplishments reflects the world-class innovation and exceptional science taking place at Penn.  The momentum we are building together is setting new standards across the academic and commercialization landscape.

Inside this report, you’ll discover how PCI catalyzes commercial activity, supports translational impact, and fosters new company formation across the many diverse technology sectors at Penn.  PCI’s activities continue to facilitate and enhance Penn’s reputation as an innovation leader.

None of these achievements would be possible without the extraordinary commitment of the PCI team, our outstanding clients and collaborators, and the unwavering support from Penn’s executive leadership and board of trustees.  And, of course, none of these accomplishments or successes would be possible without the incredible ideas, discoveries and inventions generated every day by the faculty and other innovators across Penn – they are truly our most valued partners

Finally, we invite you to join us for the Penn Center of Innovation’s 10th annual Celebration of Innovation from 4-6 PM on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, where we celebrate Penn researchers and innovators and present awards for exceptional achievements in technology innovation and commercial translation.  And for those traveling to San Francisco in January, please consider joining us for PCI’s Innovation@Penn program on January 12, 2026.

We look forward to continuing to work with you on our shared journey of supporting innovation and impact.
