PCI’s ninth annual Celebration of Innovation took place at the Jordan Medical Education Center on December 4th. The event was attended by members of Penn’s innovation community and associated partners and supporters, and recognized Penn researchers named as inventors on the 125 patents issued to Penn this past fiscal year. Special awards were presented to individuals and entities for their exceptional commercialization achievements:
- Deal of the Year: BlueWhale Bio, co-founded by Carl June, MD, the Richard W. Vague Professor in Immunotherapy at Penn Medicine, and James Riley, PhD, Professor of Microbiology at Penn Medicine
- Startup of the Year: Heirloom Carbon Technologies, co-founded by Jennifer Wilcox, PhD, the Presidential Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering and Energy Policy
- The Paul. D. Sehnert Memorial Partner of the Year: Penn Health-Tech
- Emerging Inventor of the Year: Troy Olsson, PhD, Associate Professor of Electrical and Systems Engineering
- Inventor of the Year: Marco Ruella, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at Penn Medicine
During the Celebration, four Penn I-Corps teams showcased their technologies, including Airalux Medical, Chloropept, Oneflter and Sonura. You can read more about these technologies here.
