Penn Engineering’s Deep Jariwala Receives SPIE Early Career Achievement Award for Innovative Work in Novel Materials

Deep Jariwala, PhD, Associate Professor of Electrical and Systems Engineering at Penn Engineering, received the SPIE Early Career Achievement Award, which recognizes significant and innovative technical contributions within the first five years of a faculty appointment.  Jariwala was honored for his pioneering work on light-matter interactions in quantum-confined materials and the development of excitonic metamaterials. This award is the third of Jariwala’s major early-career recognitions, including the IEEE Photonics Society Young Investigator Award (2022) and the Optica Adolph Lomb Medal (2024). Read more here.

Jariwala’s full body of work at Penn explores novel materials and quantum-scale devices for computing, sensing, and energy applications, leveraging multidisciplinary collaborations to advance photonic and optoelectronic technologies.
