Jake Brenner, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Penn Medicine, has developed a new process that can transport DNA into cells using carriers called lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). The research, which is published in the February 2025 issue of Nature, points to an improvement in the process of turning on DNA’s instructions to make proteins inside cells and reducing problematic immune reactions when compared to older DNA transfer techniques. By safely delivering therapeutic DNA to cells, this technology has the potential to transform treatment for common chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Read more here.
