Philly gene therapy companies tap into city’s workforce training program for lab techs

The Philadelphia Department of Commerce recently issued a $250,000 grant to the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) for their cell and gene therapy industry lab technician certificate program.

The newly formed program has been designed to help students develop the skills they need to work as an aseptic technician or manufacturing associate in a laboratory setting. As they learn, the students are able to earn $15 an hour through their work thanks to the grant. Local cell and gene therapy businesses WuXi Advanced Therapies and Integral Molecular are also offering two-week-long internships to the students.

This program will help meet Philadelphia’s growing demand for more cell and gene therapy industry employees. Learn more about the program here.
