Heirloom‘s proprietary and cost-efficient technology enhances limestone’s natural ability to capture carbon dioxide, shortening a process that normally takes years in nature to just three days. This accelerated method offers a low-cost pathway to scalable carbon removal from the environment. The Penn licensed technology for Heirloom was developed by Penn Engineering Professor Jennifer Wilcox, PhD, Presidential Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering and Engineering Policy, her graduate student Noah McQueen, and collaborators at Columbia University and University of British Columbia.
The proceeds from the Series B round will further drive Heirloom’s technological advancements, reduce Direct Air Capture (DAC) costs and support major projects, including the Department of Energy’s Project Cypress, which aims to remove 1 million tons of carbon dioxide annually in Louisiana.
